Catching Babies & Building A Business: Leslie's Story at In His Hands Birth & Wellness Center of Arlington

Meet Leslie Jackson...

a Registered Nurse turned Certified Nurse Midwife, found her calling in the labor and delivery room. After her mother's cancer diagnosis inspired her to go into nursing, and after having four children of her own, Leslie discovered that labor and delivery was where she belonged. Wanting more face-to-face time with moms and babies than a hospital shift allowed, she went back to school for midwifery — eventually moving her family from Michigan to Texas to complete her training and gain hands-on experience in out-of-hospital birth.

From Passion to Practice

Leslie earned her master's degree in Nurse Midwifery and in 2020, she delivered her first baby as a midwife in her own practice. By 2023, that practice had grown into In His Hands Birth & Wellness Center, a freestanding midwifery center in Arlington, Texas, with Leslie as owner. The shift from caregiver to business owner hasn't been simple. Leslie has had to learn to run a practice — operations, growth, the business side of things — all while remaining hands-on as the midwife her families count on. Through it all, her mission has stayed the same: helping women trust their bodies and experience birth the way she believes it was designed to happen.

    In His Hands is a freestanding midwifery center built on the belief that birth is normal until it's not. Leslie's care empowers women to listen to their bodies and deliver naturally, while she stays trained and ready to step in if complications arise. The center is a proud member of the American Association of Birth Centers (AABC).

Grant Project: Expanding Access Through Friends of Birth & Wellness Center of Arlington

If awarded the Hustle Grant, Leslie plans to put the funds toward increasing exposure and access for In His Hands — including launching Friends of Birth & Wellness Center of Arlington, a nonprofit arm of the practice. The nonprofit will allow the center to fundraise and create programs that help offset costs for the low-income families they serve, while the team continues working toward expanded insurance access so they can welcome even more families through their doors.
